10 Things...
10 Things Visual Response: The front side of the flag is my response to my discussion with my friend. She was one of my former professors, and is now my friend. She agreed with everything in the "10 things I am" section, and questioned a lot in the "10 things I might be" section. My visual response is focused around what she said about "10 things I'm not". She didn't quite agree or disagree to "unpredictable", but she doesn't feel I am predictable either. She said that I am o

Ode to Charcoal
Love Letter Dear Charcoal (and charcoal variants), You are what makes me feel like my true self. You are a manifestation of my soul. You are fluid, yet rigid, according to how much pressure someone puts on you. Charcoal, you are my two-dimensional clay. I can carve bodies and faces out of you with simple swipe of the stick or my eraser. And you are not just one; you are so many. Vine, compressed, white, grey, so many options. Char-kole, Artgraf, Russian Sauce, Conte Crayon –

Eagle View ES Visit
Last Friday, 10/2, we visited Eagle View elementary school in Fairfax, VA. I got the chance to observe about 20 minutes of a kindergarten class with Sandy, and about 5-10 minutes of a special ed. group. Since I was with the kindergarten class for more time, this qualitative research report will focus mostly on that experience Students The main group I observed was a kindergarten class. The age group was 5 to 6 year olds, and there were about 18 kids in the class - I cant reme

Studio Exploration #1
For the first studio exploration, I decided to text our soft pastels. I am very unfamiliar with soft pastels, and have only used them very briefly in a figure drawing class about three years ago. For each brand I tested out, I used 80lb Strathmore drawing paper, and stuck with the 8"x10" pad. I tested out Kalour, Faber-Castell, and Winsor & Newton brands. Kalour PADS Brand Quality & Cost For the first brand of chalk pastels, I chose the Kalour PADS pastels that were available

Holiday Art Teaching Trends
After reading chapter 4 of "Roots oft Art Education", I decided that one art teaching trend I am SO ready to say goodbye to is the one-size fits all arts and crafts aspect of artwork centered around the holidays that lacks content. For example, the whole hand-turkey thing. Break Up Letter Dear Contentless Craft Garbage, I am tired. So tired. I am tired of the art that is made being pointless, driven by nothing expect for a cute Christmas tree or an ugly hand turkey to be put

Crazy Books - How To
What is a Crazy Book? Crazy books are a mini accordion book with front and back hardcovers, and are secured by ribbon. The book can also fold out to become a full sheet of paper. Since there is no bound book spine, Crazy Books are a great way to keep your hands busy and introduce yourself to book-making. This week in class, we created these crazy books together as a way to build relationships among peers, observe ways to give instruction, and become in sync with each other. C
